The Visionaries Who Gave Sobek Its Purpose

 

      In 2003, our nine founders, Saundra Bigham, Frances Flentroy, Mike Flentroy, Wanda Flurry, Linda Holden, Lyndon Johnson, Fred Moss IV, Carl Pierson, and Jerome Scorggins, came together with a bold and joyful idea: to roll through the Queensboro neighborhood in a parade created by the community itself.

     From that spark of inspiration, the Krewe of Sobek was born, along with the guiding concept of “party with a purpose.” Grounded in the motto “Rebirth, Strength, and Tenacity,” the Krewe of Sobek proudly stands as a non‑profit organization dedicated to uplifting Shreveport and surrounding communities.

     Our founders established a legacy of cultural celebration, charitable support, and community engagement that continues to shape every parade, every event, and every act of service we share today.

    Their vision remains the heartbeat of Sobek, a celebration with meaning, a community with purpose, and a krewe built on unity, pride, and giving back.
